Hi,
I am researching for a new online dating site in the uk and would appreciate any information from anyone on the following:-
1.Are there any trade association's for the Online Dating Industry? If not why not?
2.Is there a 'Seal of approval' scheme or similiar available that can be added to give peace of mind to the user that the site adheres to their privacy policy?
3.What, if any, legislation/regulations have to be adhered to?
I have searched the forum for this basic information but have not been able to find anything. If i am repeating someone elses post i apologise.
Regards

1. I'm not sure myself, and if there aren't I don't know why. Except maybe the highly competitive nature of the business.
2. Since there's no association there's no main "seal of approval", there are merely internet standards like the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
3. All of them. What do you mean? What regulations can you NOT adhere to?
The internet is lawsuit trigger-happy, so I'd just cover every base. You probably should actually have disclaimers on just about everything. It's sad. We live in an age where someone can sue your dating site if she lied on your site about being 18, and had statuotory. Or if they meet a crook, or even if the member's profile info is not correct.
Good luck. And hopefully others can give some more input. _________________ My Matchmaking Websites

Yeah they run a major conference with big players and the forums are empty... odd!
Either the dating industry is dying, or it's so competitive people don't want to share the good news with everyone else.
I think it's the latter. _________________ My Matchmaking Websites

Cyrus
You can easily see from the page views that the forum is acutally quite active.
The industry is certainly reading this board. Some execs told me they come to this board every day.
Posting is a different issue. Employees at major corporations tend not to post. I think it may be policy or unwillingness. Smaller companies execs do post, however.

Oh I see. Thanks for the info! I was worried!
So major corporations just read what all the small company execs post! Gotta keep an eye on the competition, I guess.
So maybe we should talk about creating industry standards at the conference, some sort of seal of approval, etc. _________________ My Matchmaking Websites
